Paypal announce seller protection...finally!
Aussie sellers have been screaming out for it, now it's finally on it's way.

Starting 27th March, sellers that use paypal to collect payments for them will be protected from claims and chargebacks. To access the protection, sellers need to sell on eBay, sell a tangible item, and post it out to the correct address using registered post or other trackable postage method.

This may mean that you will need to adjust the way that you post out your eBay items, but in the long run it will be well worth it.

I would suggest that if you offer Paypal (and most sellers have to), then you no longer offer regular post to your buyers. By simply taking away the option of sending out a parcel via uninsured, unprotected means, means that your buyer will not have a choice but to take up a suitable option.

Normally I always advise you to offer as many options as you can to your customers, but you will find that if you offer regular postage OR registered postage, 99% of your buyers will opt for the cheaper regular postage.

When I stop offering regular postage some time ago, I found that not only did I NOT get any complaints, that people appreciated the fact that I sent their parcel via registered post. If they can't see a cheaper offer, it looks like (and is) good value.

Remember that you can't make money on registration (according to eBay policy), but you can charge for the full retail sticker price of $2.65, whilst only paying for the bulk price of $2.05 yourself.

If you would like more information on postage methods and bulk discounts, please feel free to read my indepth postage article here.

Whilst you will need to prehaps tweek your postage practices, I think you will find that your business will benefit from the changes. Plus you will enjoy not having to panic when you get a "my parcel didn't arrive" email - now you can simply tell them, don't worry, it's registered, insured and trackable.

Take a look at the announcement and I think you will agree that this is a great move from eBay considering that they require all new sellers to offer Paypal (unless they have their own merchant account) and they only offer buyer protection to buyers who pay via Paypal.

Update on my new course book.
I know, I know I've been writing it for ages.

Well it feels like I have been writing my new course for years, but finally the end is in sight.

I have set so many deadlines for this book to be finished and I know my reviewers are wondering what on earth could be taking me so long, but the book just keeps getting bigger and bigger. I am hoping this menas that when it is finished it will be the best "learn to sell on eBay" book ever written :)

I have also been working on a deal for subscribers, so that you can make a bit of money out of the new book as well. Once it is finished, I will be offering you all the chance to be paid for anyone you recommend the book to. If you want it for yourself, I will, of course, be offering you all advance copies for a hugely reduced price.

I will have more details once I have finished, so keep your ears out.

Until the next time,
Happy eBaying!

Amanda.
